Alex Mitchell wasn’t going to let a recent knee operation prevent her from raising key funds for Warrington Wolves Community Foundation.
Despite going under the knife in March, the private client specialist at Warrington-based Watsons Solicitors made light work of the Tower to Tower charity bike ride.
The team travelled more than 300 miles, taking in Blackpool, Nuneaton, and Watford, before arriving at Tower Bridge in London.
The challenge replaced the usual course between Warrington and Newcastle for the Super League Magic Weekend, with the group raising more than £7,500 for their efforts.
Talking about tackling the ride after a knee operation, Alex said: “This charity event was something that kept me going and gave me a target to aim for.
“When I was unable to do anything for 12 weeks post-op, the idea of doing the ride seemed unlikely, but as soon as I was allowed to take the brace off, I was on the bike.
“It wasn’t easy at first as I was unable to turn the pedals, but that passed with determination and as my knee grew stronger by the day.
“I did a practice run that included Manchester and Blackpool before returning to Warrington, so when there were no side effects from that I was confident of completing my fourth year of the challenge.”
The team of 16 might not have had the Magic Weekend to look forward to once they arrived in the capital, but they still managed to take in some rugby league as Warrington Wolves defeated London Broncos 36-22.
Alex added: “It’s always nice to finish and have a drink whilst watching the game. It’s even better when Warrington win.”
Funds raised from the ride will go to some of the town’s most vulnerable people through the foundation’s projects, which include Offload, In the Sheds, and Inspiring Futures.
