Vicky reflects on career progression with Cheshire law firm

It was a long time in the making but Vicky Leonard is glad she took the plunge to become a paralegal at Watsons Solicitors.

Having been a legal secretary for almost the entirety of her 20-year career, the Warrington native opted to further enhance her knowledge of law.

Undertaking an official qualification with the National Association of Licensed Paralegals, Vicky completed the 18-month course in June 2023.

It is a decision that has certainly paid dividends, as a decade with Watsons and its family department looms large this December.

Vicky said: “It’s something I’m proud to have done as it has enhanced my understanding of the law and provided me with a fresh challenge.

“I also can’t thank Watsons enough for supporting my development. The timing was right with my two children now both teenagers, and I was given everything I needed by the team here to progress my career.

“There are a few areas that crossover with family law. For example, when people get divorced it often means selling a house and changing wills.

“I’m still combining legal secretary work with paralegal activity, but it has allowed me more freedom in terms of how the process happens, for example, there is less dictation, whilst I also get to visit court, which is very interesting.”

Vicky was headhunted to join Watsons in 2015 by Danny Hudson, partner and member of the family department.

In the blink of an eye, she is now set to celebrate 10 years with Watsons as Danny’s right-hand woman at the end of 2025.

Vicky continued: “It’s a fantastic place to work each and every day.

“The environment is a warm and welcoming one with the entire team ready and willing to help you out whenever needed.

“I really enjoy life at Watsons and teaming up with Danny.”

Danny added: “We’re pleased that Vicky took the chance to become a paralegal given her already extensive knowledge of family law.

“She is a crucial part of my day-to-day at Watsons, and I look forward to seeing her flourish as her experience increases.”
