Watsons Solicitors has thrown its support behind a bid to tackle poverty, disadvantage, and inequality across Warrington.
The Bold Street-based law firm sponsored the launch of the Warrington Fund, which is an integral part of the Cheshire Community Foundation’s (CCF) strategic plans.
Held at Parrs Bank, the latest arm of the CCF was unveiled, with the aim of making an instant impact and creating a legacy and permanent source of funding for charities and support groups in the borough.
Those who attended learned that in Warrington, one of the most economically successful towns in the UK:
- One in three children are living in poverty
- One in five children are persistently absent from school
- One in six children have a mental health condition
Danny Hudson, partner and family law specialist at Watsons, was in attendance alongside a number of his colleagues.
The chair of the Warrington Business Awards said: “Coming from Warrington and having a business here, it is vital that we do all we can to support those people that need it.
“By lifting the people of the town up in whatever capacity they require then all of society can benefit.
“Corporate social responsibility is now seen as an important part of business, with companies able to concentrate on the bottom line and have a positive impact on the world around them at the same time.
“It is something that we believe in deeply at Watsons, and our long history of helping others means we are ahead of the curve.”
Other eye-catching statistics on launch night revealed that:
- Nearly 50 per cent of 18-39-year-olds have low emotional wellbeing
- Some 22 per cent of the working age population have no qualifications
- There has been a 280 per cent increase in foodbank usage since 2022
- There is 63 per cent more hospital admissions for self-harm than the England average
The Warrington Fund is open to people interested in supporting the community and grassroot charities.
