This year marks 20 years since I joined Watsons Solicitors, having started as an energetic work experience placement in 1999.
The milestone made me reflect on the fact that throughout that time, the vast majority of my colleagues have remained the same. While some have come and gone, the beating heart of the firm has remained consistent throughout.
One of our partners joined in 1973, two secretaries arrived in 1981 and 1984, and our managing partner also joined in 1984. Our office manager, whose roles and responsibilities extend to I.T., HR, accounts, buildings and everything in between, has just celebrated 46 years with Watsons!
This is not an exhaustive list and there are many others with 10+ years’ service. Amongst a staff of no more than 30, it is a remarkable feat.
During that time, turnover has increased significantly, along with profitability, and for the last four years, there has been at least 10 per cent growth per annum. A sure-fire sign that our team and brand is viewed as a leading firm in the heart of Warrington, where we have been based for more than 60 years.
Many other law firms have come and gone since my work placement just before the turn of millennium. We must be doing something right.
Investment in, and creating staff culture, is a huge contribution to our ongoing success.
