Harold Macmillan was getting used to life as British prime minister and the world was preparing for the launch of Sputnik 1 when Watsons Solicitors was born on 1 July 1957.
Fast forward 66 years to 2023 and the Cheshire-based firm, which has 26 employees, specialises in family law, employment law, wills and probate, and conveyancing.
Its 12-strong team of experienced solicitors, led by managing partner Latham Parry, each hold various accreditations and memberships of professional bodies relevant to their expertise.
Employment law specialist Latham joined Watsons as a partner in 2015 before progressing to the top job six years later.
He said: “It’s a real privilege to head up such a long-standing and well-respected company, which is embedded in the heart of Warrington – a town it serves with great pride.
“I’ve been here just shy of a decade and our team has gone from strength to strength, and we are determined to see that continue.”
Office manager Janette Thorniley and Steve Martin, who is a member of the property and conveyancing department, have been part of the furniture at Watsons for much of those 66 years.
Janette, who joined in June 1973, said: “It’s a great place to work – that’s probably obvious from the fact that I’ve been here 50 years!”
Joining Watsons two months after Janette was Steve, who spent time away from the firm before returning, added: “There’s not only a real family atmosphere, but a highly skilled team of experts qualified to handle any legal matter.”
Partner and member of the family department, Danny Hudson, who has been there for 25 years, is looking to the future.
“It is wonderful to see Watsons Solicitors reach 66 years in business and for it to be as strong, if not stronger, than ever,” he said.
“We have an enviable reputation as the go-to family law firm in the area, and I know that all of the other departments are just as busy.
“Long may we continue to thrive, and here’s to another 66 years!”
