Warrington-based Watsons Solicitors once again threw its support behind International Women’s Day.
For the second successive year, the law firm sponsored Halton Haven Hospice’s ladies’ lunch.
The hospice provides specialist palliative care, focusing on supporting patients physically, psychologically, and emotionally to people from Halton and the surrounding areas who are living with terminal conditions.
Held at The Barn at The Bears Paw in Frodsham, the afternoon celebrated local women, who were able to listen to inspiring talks from celebrant Kirstie Atherton and businesswoman Sandra Scott.
Representing Watsons at the event were Alex Mitchell, Kristel Clarke, Hannah Dale, Sophia Liu, and Lauren Hosie.
Alex, partner and member of the probate department at the law firm, said: “It was wonderful to support the occasion, which was full of interesting people from a variety of sectors in the business world.
“It’s not often that five of us can all find time to get out of the office, so being able to represent Watsons on International Women’s Day was fantastic.”
This year’s International Women’s Day theme centred around embracing equity to get the world talking about why equal opportunities aren’t enough. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action.
Alex continued: “It’s important to realise that it’s not an ‘anti-man’ day, but more about celebrating everyone who is contributing to an equal playing field.
“You only have to look at something such as women’s football. Yes, it gives females the chance to play the game they love, but how many of the coaches in their formative years might have been males giving up time to help?
“I don’t think things like that should be forgotten about, even on occasions such as International Women’s Day.”
The quintet of women from Watsons also benefited from the opportunity to network.
Alex added: “One thing I’ve learned from these types of events is that there are always people who can help add value to the service we offer.
“For example, celebrant Kirstie spoke about her line of work and from listening and learning we can pass on recommendations about funerals to clients.”
